A range of therapeutic programs enables boys ages 13 to 17 to develop physically, mentally, emotionally and educationally:
Our therapeutic residential program combines intensive counseling, educational, medical and recreational services for boys. Boys reside in one of four cottages in a homelike environment on a wooded campus in Woodland Hills, California.
Upon admission to the program, each boy is evaluated by an interdisciplinary team. Professionally trained therapists and case managers develop a treatment plan that includes individual, group and family therapy, as well as psychological testing and psychiatric consultation. Additional Services:
Work Experience - Many boys gain work experience through participation in our special vocational and on-grounds work programs as well as employment in the community. Participation is earned as a privilege, and boys are paid for their work.
Spiritual Emphasis - Boys have the opportunity to participate in both non-denominational services conducted by adult volunteers and local outreach programs.
The Life Skills Leaning Center - Our learning center offers individual and group education to help a boy develop key life skills. Training includes computer skills, basic reading and math, cultural arts and music, employment skills, parenting, anger management, and independent living skills. Individual planning and hands-on experience aid each boy in reaching his personal goal.
The Reading Enrichment Program- In 2004 we launched The Reading Enrichment Program to address the seriously deficient reading levels of our boys. When the Administration Team discoved that over 90% of our boys are reading 3-4 grade levels behind and nearly 50% are below the 2nd grade, it became an immediate and alarming concern. Through a collaborative effort with our L.A. County Office of Education on grounds school, we have successfully run the program for 3 years now.
To ensure successful family reunification, therapists assist each boy in addressing issues that brought him into placement and understanding his family dynamics. In cases where parents are unavailable or unable to work towards returning home, appropriate resources are identified and incorporated in the treatment plan.
Additional Services:
Individual, group and family therapy
Psychiatric and psychological assessment
Special therapeutic treatment groups such as anger management, substance abuse and sex education
Counseling services available on evenings and weekends to encourage participation by working families
Like other successful programs nationwide, our substance abuse recovery program offers three main components: education, peer group feedback and 12-Step programs including Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. The program provides a unified effort to support recovery in an at-risk population and includes a special support therapist with training in chemical dependency treatment.
From competitive sports to camping, our recreation program provides opportunities for boys to develop skills, self-esteem and good sportsmanship.
Recreation Therapy Residents acquire skills and self-esteem in a supportive environment. Each boy has the opportunity to develop skills through sports and activities such as basketball, track, volleyball, fitness training, crafts and field trips.
Competitive Sports Boys compete in the Southern California Athletic League, a year-round sports league involving many local treatment agencies.
Camping Weekend and extended overnight trips are planned to local mountain or beach campgrounds. The focus is on outdoor experience, team building, relaxation and fun.
