ACTIVITIES & ENRICHMENT - CONT.

Athletics

Studies have shown that children who participate in sports are more likely to succeed as adults because it builds important character attributes including team work, good sportsmanship and dedication.  We provide this advantage through a range of seasonal activities like basketball, softball, yoga, soccer, track, volleyball & fitness training.  Pacific Lodge sports teams compete in the Southern California Boys Athletic League (SCBAL) with clients of other peer organizations.

Recreational Classes

Creative and constructive activities routinely offered at Pacific Lodge include improvisational acting, culinary arts, African drumming, art therapy, spoken word and music lessons.

Most of these classes are taught or facilitated by dedicated volunteers who offer their time and expertise in exposing our kids to a variety of disciplines.  We often receive innovative ideas from interested volunteers on new and exciting classes, which are always welcome.  If you are interested in teaching an existing class or discussing an idea for a new one, please contact info@plys.org.

Community Service

Among the best therapeutic approaches to grief and trauma is gratitude and service.  Pacific Lodge clients work with Rotary International and other service organizations coordinating food drives for the homeless, collecting clothing for underprivileged families, and assisting partner agencies in our community.  We are constantly looking for ways in which our clients can give back.

Cultural Activities

Our curriculum incorporates routine outings to museums, movies, college campuses and sporting events to increase our clients' exposure to a broad scope of life experiences.  Many have never been to an art gallery, visited a college campus or had the opportunity to see a play performed live.  Also, thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to treat our boys to see home games for the Dodgers, Clippers and Lakers every season.  If you are interested in donating tickets for an outing or sponsoring a cultural activity, please contact development@plys.org.
